April 13: What did you accomplish today?  Be specific - what specific research did you do?  How will this research help with your project?  What questions do you have for Mr. Vinluan? (Period 8)

  1. Interview questions were developed. Questions include: Are you satisfied with the working conditions of your job?
Do you feel that your wages are unfair when compared to other jobs?
Do you feel proud of your accomplishments in doing your job?
Does your job pay you well? / Is it enough to pay for living expenses and family?
What would you change about the conditions/pay if you could?
Would you change jobs if you could?
What career did you want when you were young?
What do you want your children to grow up to be (if applicable)?

  2. I researched homelessness in Chicago and organizations that have been established to combat it. There is the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless which works to debunk common misconceptions about homelessness. In 2003 Mayor Daley created a "10 Year Plan to End Homelessness" which he did not follow through on, so CCH is working to continue to make this plan a reality. This research will help me see what it already being done to fight homelessness and how cities have addressed this problem. I will continue to research misconceptions about homelessness and determine what is the most effective way to make people care about this issue.

  3. Today I did some research about the locations of major medical locations, such as hospitals, and noted what locations were more common. The lack of proper medical care could lead to differences in how a community is viewed in society.

  4. Today I found another source: pacificu.edu that explains the three different waves of feminism. I have started an outline for my project because I sill don't know what medium I want to use to present. I will start by discussing the three waves of feminism, and then I will examine how and why each of these events turned people away from the movement. My conclusion will be a search for a solution.

  5. Becky Shepard Today we started to look at more of the sources we accumulated on our google doc and pull out some statistics, such as the actual wages of construction workers and put them in an organized page. We also came up with interview questions for when Jakarri interviews the firefighter. We will ask about their satisfaction with their pay/conditions.

  6. Today I found and analyzed a comprehensive source regarding the positive correlation between gun ownership and gun violence (http://www.factcheck.org/2012/12/gun-rhetoric-vs-gun-facts/). While there is no way to conclude without doubt that there exists a causal relationship, it will be relatively easy to argue for with reasoning and the correlation. This is the foundation for my project, and will allow me to go more in depth about the specific effects of increased gun ownership.

  7. Went back and looked at the sources I have and started to gather more conclusive information based off of them regarding what the issue is, why the fact that the lack of Latinos in the media is an issue, causes of the problem, and I'm starting to get an idea of a solution or a couple of potential solutions. Went more into how Latinos that are in the media are represented and how that negatively impacts the Latino/ Hispanic community.
