I forgot to blog my research from the last class. Today, I'm researching different perspectives on whether or not able-bodied actors should play people with medical conditions. I read an article called "Able-bodied Actors and Disability Drag" by Scott Jordan Harris. He thinks it's wrong for able-bodied actors to have the opportunity to play people with different medical conditions when there are qualified actors with those same medical conditions that can play roles but aren't offered them. They also aren't offered roles that could be considered for either an able-bodied or disabled actor. After researching perspectives, I will start putting together my project to see how the presentation will look and be organized.
Today we looked into why this is an issue. We found articles stating Americas over emphasis on college, and how if you don't attend, you will almost certainly have a lower wage. Not everyone has the resources or desire to go to college, so the solution involves raising wages for jobs that do't require as much education, as they are just as productive and valuble. http://diverseeducation.com/article/14696/
Today I narrowed down my topic further. I will be looking at the most modern wave of feminism and identifying the problems or misconceptions within it, and then doing research on those problems. When I present my findings I will also have to find specific reasons as to why anti-feminism is a problem, and I will propose some sort of solution or change in mindset to combat it.
Thursday I came to a more conclusive solution based off of what the affects of the problem were and what some of the causes of the solution were. There's still an issue of relating the potential solutions to the cause, but I'm a lot closer than I was before.
Thursday I narrowed and finalized my topic. I also began to compile statistics to use in my project and to begin to look for the root causes of my problem. I then began brainstorming ways in which I could personally help alleviate my problem.
I continued to research existing solutions to homelessness in Chicago. I started to analyze the causes of homelessness. One of the main causes is a lack of affordable housing for everyone who needs a home. This research will help me identify what area needs targeting in order to come up with an effective solution.
