April 13: What did you accomplish today? Be specific - what specific research did you do? How will this research help with your project? What questions do you have for Mr. Vinluan? (Period 5)
Today I found more sources pertaining to my subject. I tried to find some contact info to someone in the city who I thought might work and realized that I would be able to talk to one of my alderman. This will help me with the "fix the problem" aspect of the project. The only question I had was if you had any particular people or contacts that you might know that could possibly help me.
Today I continued my research into similiar prohrams, finding more references tor each out and read and seeing another program in St. Louis. There was a nother report, put out by the government, that distinguishes between the knowledge gathered and words heard by low, middle, and high income children. I also began to put these sources into a bibliography.
I found some more sources about why there is still a lack of graduation rates for Latinos. I have thought of some survey questions to ask students from Roberto Clemente High School. I found out that families play a stronger role in students' decisions of staying in school. I am also thinking of interviewing a couple of students from Roberto Clemente high school.
I dove more deeply into the geographical statistics of gun violence in certain neighborhoods in Chicago. I discovered that bullying being a major cause of gun violence is due to lack of diversity among student populations in school and lack of a more qualified liberal education system in schools that are in low-income neighborhoods. These neighborhoods also seem to be dominated by a certain ethnicity. The exception seeming to be neighborhhoods dominanted by Chicagoans of European descent which are on the average high-income neighborhoods with low if not no gun violence rates. This was helpful because I am trying to find a certain correlation between low gun violence rates in neighborhoods dominated by people of European descent versus neighborhoods where the dominant ethnicity is usually one of color to try and pinpoint what is missing from the low gun violence equation that neighborhoods with a dominant European descent population follow. This helps narrow down the road to finding a realistic solution that hasn't already been tried in stopping gun violence for low-income neighborhoods dominated by populations of color.
What i did today was that i found more articles on my project. And that i have started on my slide for the final project. This is important because i will start to think about topic quotes in my presentation and they will help me organize my presentation to be on point.
