April 23: What did you accomplish today? Be specific - what specific research did you do? How will this research help with your project? What questions do you have for Mr. Vinluan? (Period 5)
I researched the suicide rate within cook county and trying to figure how to stop the rate from increasing. I was able to find more resources, and organizations that help those who are struggling. Contacting them to help me understand why people do this and how we can prevent it from happening.
I researched how income and class affect the way low or low-middle class youth grow up in Chicago because the social class a student is born into determines what resources and opportunities youth have. This involved researching statistics and facts about income, crime, education, and work rates in the area that me and Brandon are focusing on. This helps because the root of the problem in low income neighborhoods are the quality and quantity of education, crime, income, and social class.
Will and I started to put everything on paper. We need to send an outline (detailed) to the people running the GET conference so they know what exactly we are talking about to fill in our 15 minute time slot on May 16. We have a lot more information now so its just down to putting everything together in a powerpoint or prezi and hopefully we will have that done by the end of next week! :D
sorry this is late i fogot to do it and did not now there was one i was absent that day and cally did not tell me but at home i was able to still research more about my topic and i was able to start to narrow thing down with my topic proposal. And at home i started to revise my power point that i did to use that material for my project.
This is a late blog post, but last class we were focusing on preparing our presentation for the GET conference. We have been working on what we are actually saying, what message we want to send, and how we plan on interacting with the people listening to us.
sorry this is late but. What I did was that you helped me on outlying my presentation with topics that i should fallow for my presentation. The four are 1. What the problem? 2. What the problem? 3. what is the significance of the problem. 4. what is the solution of the problem. these are the four that you gave me in class. I also found more research on my project dealing with answering the four questions .
This period I found an online book store that will sell children's books for extremely low prices (often below $3) which could be a great place to buy books for my project. I also read a few studies that talk specifically about how the access to books makes a huge difference in literacy and employment opportunities down the road. One was specifically about how to fight crime we should be looking at investing in kids, a large aspect of which is providing them with books.
