May 14: What solution are you thinking of implementing to solve your issue?  How would this solve your issue?  What challenges do you envision having? (Period 8)

  1. I think my solution will be education, so I might make a documentary and post it on YouTube. The documentary would include information about why homelessness occurs and maybe give a suggestion for what a next step could be. This would not solve my issue, but it would make people aware of the problem of homelessness in Chicago and misconceptions people might have. I anticipate it being difficult to spread this video to a lot of people and I believe it will be difficult to actually make the documentary itself.

  2. A solution that I am considering is creating the start of a blog that promotes the original idea of feminism. I think this is a good start because much of the anti-feminist movement starts online and if we can create more things that promote a healthy idea of equality, those voices of opposition will disappear. Much of the anti movement starts with ignorance of what the goal of feminism is. Blogs and online information can help to fight against that.

  3. My solution to the problem of the lack of food pantries in low income areas is two-fold. The first is to try to lobby for a food pantry to open in an area close to me. I mainly chose this as the starting area because I know the alderman of the area personally and it would be easier to get in contact with her. The second aspect of my solution is to educate and expose this problem to a larger audience, this can also be accomplished by my relationship with a local alderman.

  4. Our solution will involve calling the construction workers union, who lobbys for better working conditions and pay, and asking where the money comes from and what the options for solutions are. We will then contact where the money comes from by mail and write a letter express our concerns. Getting a response will be difficult.

  5. My solution will involve exposure. I think that by increasing exposure of people to accurate media portrayals of people with different medical conditions. The biggest goal is to have more people with these actual medical conditions represent their lives on the big screen. That's the most effective way. But I can start implementing a solution by attempting to increase the number of young adults and children in acting activities and courses.

  6. My solution will be to convince a organization to open job opportunities to a poor neighborhood. This will work by convincing further companies to dedicate resources to that area. However, I will have to get more information, or they will just reject my ideas.

  7. Construction workers are paid too little under dangerous conditions. Our group will send letters to the local government that pays the construction workers requesting higher wages for construction workers.

  8. I have not decided on a specific solution to my problem, but I am sure that the solution will pertain to education surrounding gun violence and socioeconomic inequality. Because the actual number of gun deaths will not lower until stronger gun regulation is passed, the best step to a solution is educating the public about an implication of gun violence that is not often discussed.

  9. My solution would be to convince local alderman through petitions, that people bike to work in lower income areas of the city and not having bike lanes in these areas is making it harder for people to commute.

  10. I was thinking I could inform people and use social media to inform people of various statistics. The limited time I have makes working with schools, teachers, and students more difficult, so social media and informing people seems like a step I can take over the next few weeks to try to make a difference with my topic.

  11. Some solutions that I've thought of were boycotting movies that were not ethnically diverse or poorly representative or Latinos, having something similar to International Night but more focused on Latin America, and writing a letter to TV stations or TV programmers explaining to them why this is problematic and why it would be advantageous to create a show that portrays Latinos in a positive light. The one that seems most feasible for this project is writing a letter and I'm almost done with it, I just need to work on the ending and decide who exactly it is going to be sent to.
