June 8: What did you accomplish today?  What do you still need to accomplish? (Period 8)

  1. Today we started formatting our presentation and laid out the different slides. We assigned roles of who was presenting what and made additions to out letter, which is a significant part of our solution. We still need to send our letter as well as make final touches to our presentation, as well as our personal connection/why we chose this topic.

  2. Today, I started putting together my final presentation, which will take the form of a power point. I also finalized the ideas for my proposed solution to ending, or at least raising awareness of, masculine sadism in horror films. First, I plan to start an account on Twitter that will hopefully raise mass awareness for the issue of masculine sadism in horror films, as it is scarcely seen as a serious problem in common society. For the second part of my solution, I will type up a script and develop a short teaser for a movie that will satirize the portrayal of masculine sadism in many horror films. My hope is that this will not only bring this issue to the attention of a wider range of people, but that it will also educate them on the negative effects it can have on the development of young children (esp. girls), as well as inspire movie studios to make horror films that go against the grain of typical slasher films, which capitalize on brutal deaths of feminine characters through masculine sadism.

  4. Monday I used my time in class to create a more solid solution. Though part of my solution is to help the young girl be more enthusiastic about school, I chose to expand my solution to be able to benifit more children. A more inclusive solution would be to provide after school assistance or summer tutoring to those in need.I still need to expand on the significance of this issue. Though the drop out rates attribute to the high poverty rates of minority's, there is a greater significance such as its effect on the cycle of poverty and how the low success rates attribute to it.
